We are so glad you are interested in volunteering with us. Volunteers are imperative for our ministry and we know that C-U at Home couldn't function without the help of dedicated volunteers. If you can "spare some time" and would like to make a difference in others lives, email Phoenix Coordinator Cheryl Lehman.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are various ways that you can get involved below. Each role is vital to our organization and serves a very important purpose. We truly believe that our friends from the community are the lifeblood of the ministry!

  1. Be a friend of the Phoenix: Spend some time hanging out at The Phoenix Daytime Drop-In Center by playing cards, hanging out, or talking to our friends without an address. It may not seem like much, but it's important to just be there and make relationships with the individuals that we serve!
  2. Volunteer Drivers & Riders: Do you like to drive? As part of our Transportation Ministry, we often take individuals to detox facilities or shelter in other surrounding communities. This is an opportunity for you to help us get them there or simple accompany us on the trip.
  3. Spiritual Advisers: Do you have a passion for discipleship and walking along with someone on their spiritual journey? Our residents meet with a  spiritual adviser each week for encouragement and wisdom.
  4. Groups: There are many different opportunities for groups to help us out. This looks different depending on the week or season that we are in. Please contact our Phoenix Coordinator at 217-819-4569 for more information on coming in with your group.
  5. Donate items on our Wish List: There are a lot of items in high demand we go through on a regular basis, such as
    1. men's underwear and T-shirts (L, XL, XXL)
    2. cases of bottled water and/or Gatorade
    3. laundry pods, dryer sheets, bleach, spray cleaner w/bleach, hand soap dispensers or refill bottles
    4. paper plates, paper towels, coffee cups (12 oz), sugar (in box or canister)

Emergency Warming and Cooling

If the weather becomes extremely hot or extremely cold, The Phoenix opens for emergency warming or cooling hours. The Phoenix normally opens from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for these situations, but the hours may be different as it is decided on a case by case basis.

As the winter season approaches, we welcome friends from the community to come and spend time with us before or after work hours. It is helpful to have friends that are willing to be "on call" for emergency warming hours. If this interests you, please contact us. We would love to have you join us!
