Who We Are

C-U at Home is  a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that was founded in 2011 by Melany Jackson. We engage and mobilize our community to support the most vulnerable homeless on their journey of healing and restoration. To that end, we employ several key full-time professionals in administration and communication as well as full-time coordinators and support staff for our primary areas of operation. Working at C-U at Home

The Phoenix Daytime Drop-In Center brings our friends without an address together with our friends from the community. We are open from noon-5pm, every Tuesday-Friday and additional hours during extreme heat and cold weather. Friends can shower, do laundry, get a haircut, pick up mail and connect with local social services organizations.

Our C-U Men’s Emergency Shelter (70 E. Washington St., Champaign) and C-U at Austin’s Place Women’s Shelter (same location, but with a separate address at 504 N. Market St.) provide a haven of rest for our friends. They receive bedding, snacks, and the opportunity for case management.

C-U at Home exists not just to provide physical resources, but also to forge relationships with our friends. We do this through Transitional Housing, Street Outreach and our Transportation Ministry.  Our dedicated staff go out on the streets and visit local parks daily, checking on friends’ welfare and finding ways to support their needs.  Our 24-Hour Outreach Line can be used by anyone seeking emergency shelter or other assistance. Residents in our Transitional Housing receive ongoing support, encouragement, and mentoring, residents learn to become more independent, self-sufficient, and able to enjoy a stable life on their own in the future.
