Each person has the ability to serve as a thriving member of society and through grace, compassion, love, and empowerment, we see those we serve gain dignity, increase their self-worth and self-esteem, and achieve goals they never thought possible.

Every person is a son or daughter of Christ, free from marginalization or stereotype.

C-U at Home is a grassroots, 501 c (3), faith-based homelessness ministry with facilities located in the Champaign-Urbana area. Due to our not-for-profit status, all gifts made to C-U at Home (both monetary and in-kind) are tax deductible. Our ministry is funded 100% by the community and we have made it a priority not to accept any state or federal funds. We feel that through community dollars, we can stay true to our mission. While our mission statement reads, “C-U at Home engages and mobilizes our community to house and support the most vulnerable homeless on their journey of healing and restoration,” our connection with those we serve goes much deeper. C-U at Home was founded in 2011 by an incredible woman named Melany Jackson. After an encounter with one of our friends on the street in late 2010, Melany decided to take action. She realized that the man she was talking to was beginning to develop frostbite and in a town as rich as Champaign, Illinois, she would not accept this as a permissible reality. C-U at Home was formed to serve those who have been forgotten, shunned, overlooked, and otherwise cast out by society as a whole. To read more about Melany and her homelessness story, click here.

The ministry of C-U at Home is broken into five parts:

  1. The Phoenix Day-Time Drop in Center
  2. Education and Advocacy
  3. Transitional Housing
  4. Transportation
  5. Street Outreach

We feel that each person we encounter should be looked at as a son or daughter of Christ, free from marginalization or stereotype. Each person has the ability to serve as a thriving member of society and through grace, compassion, love, and empowerment, we see those we serve gain dignity, increase their self-worth and self-esteem, and achieve goals they never thought possible.
