OWN 2017 Participants - Justin Schnebly
I’ll start off by saying I’m a Father of 4 Amazing kids. My oldest is 20 years old and is in the Marine Corps, I have a daughter that is 12 years old, a son that is 10 and a daughter that is 3 years old. They are everything to me and they have helped me be the father I am today. Throughout my life I have encountered many ups and downs. Most of my low times were caused because of my addictions and not having the right tools and support to show me that I have potential to do amazing things in life. In 2008 I decided to turn my life over to Jesus Christ and started serving at my church. I washed windows at first and then joined the worship band. I felt like I had purpose and for the first time in my life I was excited to serve and help others. On my journey I have met some great people who devote their time and lives to helping and serving this community . C-U at Home is an amazing organization that reaches out to help people struggling with life, whether it's addiction or someone whom is having a tough time and needs somewhere to sleep, etc . I'm very excited to be a part of One Winter Night and to help raise money and awareness for the homeless in Champaign county.
About the Event
Believe it or not, on any given night, literally hundreds of people in Champaign County do not spend the night in their own home. Some sleep with friends. Others sleep in shelters. Some sleep in cars. And others sleep outside. C-U at Home One Winter Night raises awareness about those who are homeless, helping others realize that someday that could be me.
One Winter Night will be held in the heart of downtown Champaign on Friday, February 3, from 6pm-6am. We hope to have at least 200 people spend the night outside in a cardboard box for 12 hours. We will be hosting educational presentations about various topics related to homelessness from 7pm-10pm. We will also be featuring our full-length documentary, The Phoenix: Hope Is Rising, every 2 hours throughout the night, starting at 10pm. This documentary takes you from the birth of C-U at Home all the way up to the future of our ministry. You can find out more about the documentary and find out how you can host a screening of the film at: www.thephoenixhopeisrising.com
NEW this year is the OWN Children's Corner! It's a place where young people can learn more about our friends without an address. Story times at 7:15pm, 8:15pm, and 9:15pm. Activities that we do at The Phoenix Daytime Drop-in Center. Writing notes and drawing pictures for our friends at The Phoenix. It's sure to be a great opportunity for your kids to learn and grow right along with other kids.
The goal this year for C-U at Home One Winter Night is $200,000, which will be about 2/3 of our 2017 annual budget.
