The reason that I am doing is this is I want to help bring attention or spotlight to this growing epidemic in our Nation.
I am a Veteran, and I know that there are not only Veteran’s, but Children, Mothers and Fathers that are living like this because of some evilness that has them down and out.
Veteran’s – it might be PTSD, Mothers, Children & Fathers it might be from the housing market crashing due to other people’s greed. It might be the young people because they didn’t get what they needed as a child (love and confidence) and turned to gangs, and while in that gang started an addiction that they cannot overcome or people that came from a great home background and got caught up in evil addictions.
Whatever the cause, it needs to be continuously brought to the forefront. We are the greatest country in the world and we have these kind of epidemics GROWING, not only here in the USA but they are happening also all over the world.
Our Father tells that we should always take care of the poor and I just want to be able to do my part. This is a mission that I think is probably one of the greatest missions there is. Nobody in the United States of America needs to be living on the street in a box, for that matter no one in the world. Everybody deserves a place they can call HOME.
About the Event
Believe it or not, on any given night, literally hundreds of people in Champaign County do not spend the night in their own home. Some sleep with friends. Others sleep in shelters. Some sleep in cars. And others sleep outside. C-U at Home One Winter Night raises awareness about those who are homeless, helping others realize that someday that could be me.
One Winter Night will be held in the heart of downtown Champaign on Friday, February 3, from 6pm-6am. We hope to have at least 200 people spend the night outside in a cardboard box for 12 hours. We will be hosting educational presentations about various topics related to homelessness from 7pm-10pm. We will also be featuring our full-length documentary, The Phoenix: Hope Is Rising, every 2 hours throughout the night, starting at 10pm. This documentary takes you from the birth of C-U at Home all the way up to the future of our ministry. You can find out more about the documentary and find out how you can host a screening of the film at: www.thephoenixhopeisrising.com
NEW this year is the OWN Children's Corner! It's a place where young people can learn more about our friends without an address. Story times at 7:15pm, 8:15pm, and 9:15pm. Activities that we do at The Phoenix Daytime Drop-in Center. Writing notes and drawing pictures for our friends at The Phoenix. It's sure to be a great opportunity for your kids to learn and grow right along with other kids.
The goal this year for C-U at Home One Winter Night is $200,000, which will be about 2/3 of our 2017 annual budget.
