One Winter Night 2017

OWN 2017

C-U at Home One Winter Night is a POWERFUL opportunity for you to learn more about homelessness, raise awareness for our friends without an address, and experience a bit of what it might be like to be outside, overnight, in the coldest part of a Central Illinois winter. Box dwellers commit to spending 12 hours outside in a cardboard box, along Neil Street in downtown Champaign. Box dwellers come from all works of life, local governmental leaders, the Police Chief, pastors, business leaders, students, grandmas and grandpas, moms and dads. Each box dweller is committed to raising at least $1,000 to help C-U at Home continue doing all we do to help our community in 2017.

We invite the whole family downtown. Kids can experience our OWN Children's Corner. Everyone can see our family-friendly documentary, The Phoenix: Hope Is Rising.

About the Event

Believe it or not, on any given night, literally hundreds of people in Champaign County do not spend the night in their own home. Some sleep with friends. Others sleep in shelters. Some sleep in cars. And others sleep outside. C-U at Home One Winter Night raises awareness about those who are homeless, helping others realize that someday that could be me.

One Winter Night will be held in the heart of downtown Champaign on Friday, February 3, from 6pm-6am. We hope to have at least 200 people spend the night outside in a cardboard box for 12 hours. We will be hosting educational presentations about various topics related to homelessness from 7pm-10pm. We will also be featuring our full-length documentary, The Phoenix: Hope Is Rising, every 2 hours throughout the night, starting at 10pm. This documentary takes you from the birth of C-U at Home all the way up to the future of our ministry. You can find out more about the documentary and find out how you can host a screening of the film at: www.thephoenixhopeisrising.com

NEW this year is the OWN Children's Corner! It's a place where young people can learn more about our friends without an address. Story times at 7:15pm, 8:15pm, and 9:15pm. Activities that we do at The Phoenix Daytime Drop-in Center. Writing notes and drawing pictures for our friends at The Phoenix. It's sure to be a great opportunity for your kids to learn and grow right along with other kids.

The goal this year for C-U at Home One Winter Night is $200,000, which will be about 2/3 of our 2017 annual budget.
